As part of our continuing effort to drive conversation in the community, we plan to occasionally post an "open line" for our readers to share their thoughts about certain topics in the comments. The future of Fayetteville High School remains an important topic for everyone in our community. We thought today we'd ask our readers to describe their ideal school facilities. No idea is too crazy.

DesignShare (http://www.designshare.com) features a wealth of terrific ideas for designing schools in the 21st century. In a section dedicated to exploring design patterns, the site discusses the importance of transparency, small learning communities, and keeping the campus connected to the community by establishing a presence in the heart of the community.
No idea is too crazy? OK...concerning the "Historic" building, currently the Adam's Center, historically; the original elementary school. When the new HS is built I would like to suggest that it remain (is there a question it will be torn down? I hope not) and be enclosed in a large atrium type room. This idea will also help to preserve this historic building almost forever. The interior could be remodeled for use as a student union office, student body officer's offices, basically anything that will allow the students to have a little "Pride in Ownership".
This is one of many ideas I would like to see in the construction of the new campus. Thanks.
